Trying to find out about a famous Jersey monument? We've got some ideas to help you...
Jersey’s Historic Environment Record (HER) is an extensive source of information about the historic Island of Jersey. It showcases Jersey’s rich diversity of archaeological sites, finds and features, historic buildings and landscapes, as well as conflict sites and local folklore.
You can search the online HER directly in different ways: Map Search, Text Search or via one of the saved searches provided. Use the database to search for a particular monument or ‘Heritage Asset’ or search by historic themes.
The HER is also accessible in person. It is based at the Jersey Archive, the Island’s national repository of archival material and a key location for all reports on archaeological work and historic building recording carried out on the Island. This resource is available to a wide range of individuals, researchers, students and archaeologists. Jersey Heritage cares for the Island’s collections of archaeology, archives, art and social history, holding over 750,000 objects and documents.
We are interested to hear from anyone who wants to know more about Jersey’s heritage, or knows about historical or archaeological features that we could add to the Island’s story.
You can also read our Conservation Statements on a number of important buildings in Jersey on our Historic Environment page.
