Our 'Jersey Royal Charters' banner exhibition is in residence in the Undercroft at Mont Orgueil.

Many of the Royal Charters before Elizabeth I’s reign mention the Castle with its military and strategic importance to the English monarch.

Elizabeth I, of course, favoured the new castle named for her in St Aubin’s Bay (Elizabeth Castle). Following her reign, mention of Mont Orgueil ceased, although the charters continued to reinforce Jersey’s special relationship with the Crown.
