‘Creative Summer’, which is kindly sponsored by Ogier, starts during the first week of the school holidays and runs for six weeks through to the end of August. The family-friendly activities include painting, flag and banner-making, wild play in the outdoors, graffiti art and animation. Each week is at a different heritage site, including Mont Orgueil Castle, Elizabeth Castle, La Hougue Bie, Hamptonne and Jersey Museum.

Nicky Lucas, Jersey Heritage’s Community Events Curator, said: “We have a host of colourful and fun activities on offer as part of our ‘Creative Summer’ series for youngsters to enjoy at our castles and museums during the school holidays, each one led by talented artists and experts. There is something for everyone, whether they are budding painters, would-be graffiti artists, future animators or simply love being outdoors building dens. Each week of activity is at a different heritage site, which also provides an opportunity for participants to explore and be surrounded by Jersey’s special history, using it to inspire their creative activities.”

The activities on offer for this year’s ‘Creative Summer’ are:

  • Bubbles & Battlements – action and adventure with The Jersey Showman at Mont Orgueil Castle
  • Brilliant Banners – creating apple-themed banners at Hamptonne with artist Kelly Eastwood
  • Wild Play Days – outdoor activities at La Hougue Bie with naturalist Stephen Le Quesne
  • Completely Graffiti – a community art event at Elizabeth Castle with graffiti artist Stephen Lamb
  • Animation & Sound Station – workshops at Jersey Museum with artists Karen Le Roy Harris and Esther Rose Parkes
  • Creative Castle – flag-making at Elizabeth Castle with artist Katrin Mountain.

This year’s artists and experts include The Jersey Showman, artists Kelly Eastwood, Karen Le Roy Harris, Esther Rose Parkes and Katrin Mountain, naturalist Stephen Le Quesne and graffiti artist Stephen Lamb.

Kate Kirk, Director of Marketing and Communications at Ogier, said: “’Creative Summer’ is a highlight of the summer holidays. The six-week-long programme of activities not only creates interactive learning opportunities but also offers students the chance to explore new forms of creativity – such as creating a surrealist collage animation with sound and images. As a community, we have a rich history and Jersey Heritage are brilliant at helping people of all ages to engage with it. We’re delighted to continue our sponsorship of ‘Creative Summer’ as part of the Ogier and Jersey Heritage programme of family fun events and activities, bringing history to life for families.”
