Junior Chef

We are seeking an enthusiastic Junior Chef to join our team at La Hougue Bie. This varied role combines kitchen duties with occasional front of house responsibilities, offering a great opportunity to develop a wide range of hospitality skills.

Responsibilities include preparing menu items, assisting with baking, maintaining food safety standards, supporting the Head Chef, and ensuring kitchen cleanliness. You’ll also help with customer service, including preparing drinks, taking orders, and keeping displays stocked. This full-time position is worked 5 days per week on a rota basis, Monday to Sunday, 8.30am – 5pm.

We are looking for someone to start ASAP.

£15.45p/h, 37.5 hours per week.

Purpose of Role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile Junior Chef to join our team. This is a unique role that combines working in the kitchen with occasional front of house duties, giving you the chance to develop a wide range of hospitality skills in a friendly and professional environment. There are good opportunities for progression for the right candidate.

Working hours:

  • Working hours are between 8.30am and 4.30pm. Specific shift times vary depending on team size, location and time of year.
  • Occasional evening work to cover events

Main Responsibilities and Key Result Areas:

Chef Duties

  • Preparation of menu items in line with the recipe processes.
  • Ensure the kitchen management plan is followed and completed on a daily basis, highlighting any issues immediately to the café manager.
  • Ensure that the preparation and service of food is in line with our Food Safety program and to the required recipe and presentation standards
  • To assist the Head Chef with any kitchen tasks that need to be completed.
  • Placing orders for food, drinks and packaging with suppliers as required, ensuring the correct stock levels are maintained
  • Assisting in baking cakes, scones and other items
  • Receive and check deliveries for accuracy and quality.
  • Organize and store kitchen supplies.
  • Covering Head Chefs days off

Kitchen Porter Duties

  • Washing up dishes and kitchen utensils
  • Cleaning kitchen equipment in line with cleaning schedule
  • Maintain cleanliness of storage areas and refrigerators.
  • Dispose of kitchen waste appropriately.
  • Adhere to hygiene and food safety standards.

Front Of House Duties

  • Preparation of hot drinks
  • Taking orders and processing them through the till
  • Provide friendly and professional customer service
  • Ensure fridges and display areas are stocked up, following the stock rotation policy
  • Assist with clearing, cleaning and setting up customer tables
