Brave the elements and battle the boredom! We've got some ideas on what to do at our visitor sites this winter. Don't forget we're open every day...whatever the weather.
Maritime Museum
- Challenge yourself and the kids, who can set the record for tying the fastest knot?
- If the kids are feeling brave, tell them to put their head as close as they dare to the Black Dog and ask them: “What’s hiding in there?”
- Have a sniff in the Orient Star! Which ship smell is your favourite?
Mont Orgueil Castle
- In windy weather there’s a kestrel that likes to fly above the Castle, can you spot it?
- Free dressing up clothes are available, so grab an outfit and live the part.
- Did you know there’s a playground at the Castle…ask where it is when you arrive.
Hamptonne
- Send the kids running around the orchard to burn off some steam, can they tell you how many apple trees there are?
- Have a friendly family game of patanque, just at the admissions desk to use the free patanque set.
- Ask the kids to take some photos on your phone, then why not put them on your social media, don’t forget to tag @jerseyheritage we’ll be sure to share it.
La Hougue Bie
- Cakes and hot chocolate are always available in the Tearoom, and Jersey Heritage Members get a 10% discount too!
- On Tuesdays and Thursdays, there’s a Longhouse volunteer who lights a fire, ask them why it’s important to have smoke in the Longhouse, the answer might surprise you!
- Take a torch into the dolmen, send the kids inside the chamber while you stand at the entrance, can you recreate the equinox for them?
