Filled with lots of hands-on activity for all ages, find out how light has been used to tell the time, light our homes, safely guide shipping, and entertain us – from magic lanterns to zoetropes. Step inside a camera obscura and discover the work of Jersey’s early photographers, who used light to capture the beauty of the Island.

Using objects from our scientific collection, such as shipping lamps and microscopes, and specially-commissioned interactive exhibits, you can experiment with the properties of light and how we capture it for our use.

What is a rainbow? How did the Neolithic builders of La Hougue Bie calculate the seasonal path of the sun? How does the iconic Corbière lighthouse keep sailors safe? What part did Jersey play in the story of early photography?

From the natural light of the changing seasons to the artificial light of our modern homes, this is your chance to play with light!
