Jersey Jockeys and Guernsey Gallopers

1pm to 2pm

Step into the fascinating world of Channel Island horse racing with journalist and writer John Henwood as he shares stories from his recently published book, ‘Jersey Jockeys and Guernsey Gallopers’ – a well-researched exploration of racing’s deep local roots, from its military beginnings in 1789 to royal patronage, colourful characters and global connections.

Expect tales of Lillie Langtry’s champion ‘Merman’, revolutionary jockeys, and how racing predates rugby and football in Jersey. A true labour of love, the book reveals how this sport shaped Island life.

Buy your copy of ‘Jersey Jockeys and Guernsey Gallopers’ on the day at a special discounted price of £15 (cash only).

Bring your lunch with you and we will provide tea, coffee and biscuits.

Drop in from 1pm and be back to work by 2pm.

This short talk starts at 1.10pm. Booking is essential – 35 FREE tickets are available below to Jersey Heritage Members only.
