Hundreds of families in Jersey have enjoyed free days out with Jersey Heritage in 2025 to discover the Island’s natural heritage, with a popular festive-themed event still to come.
For the second year in a row, the charity’s family-friendly ‘Discovery Days’ series was kindly sponsored by Mourant, which meant that all the events could be free of charge and enjoyed by everyone.
As well as supporting the hands-on activities, trails and workshops at the 2025 events, Mourant also supplied free goodies for families to use and take home with them, including a jute bag and magnifying glass to assist with foraging at ‘Discover Landscapes’ at Frances Le Sueur Centre in St Ouen’s Bay; mixed seeds to plant at home after enjoying ‘Discover Flowers’ at Hamptonne Country Life Museum; and children’s sunglasses and suntan lotion at ‘Discover Beaches’ at Ouaisné.
‘Discover Crafty Christmas’ is the final ‘Discovery Day’ of the year and takes place at Jersey Museum on Saturday, 13 December. As well as a host of free activities, including crafts, a festive film, carol singings and a trail, participants will each be given a tin of chocolates.
Carmella Knight, one of Jersey Heritage’s Events Curators, said the events had been great fun and had included families foraging for 25 varieties of plants, mixing 102 herbal potions, moulding 6kg of Playdough and discovering over 400 mini sea creatures. There were 300 Christmas cards ready and waiting to be created, she added.
Carmella said: “Huge thanks go to our sponsor, Mourant, whose support has meant our ‘Discovery Days’ have been entirely free again, and to all the partners we’ve worked with over the year. This series has highlighted the growing enthusiasm for hands-on learning across Jersey and we’ve had so much fun with Islanders of all ages, whether it’s been building sandcastles on the beach and exploring tides and archaeology, pulling on our wellies to forage in St Ouen’s Bay or following a flower trail around the beautiful grounds of Hamptonne.
“Everyone has enjoyed being outdoors and learning about the Island’s incredible natural heritage. ‘Discover Crafty Christmas’ is our final event of the year and it is always a highlight. It’s very popular with families and we can’t wait to welcome them to Jersey Museum on 13 December for some free festive fun.”

Daniel Birtwistle, Mourant’s Jersey Managing Partner, said: “This is the second year that our firm has sponsored the Jersey Heritage ‘Discovery Days’, and it’s been extremely rewarding for us to see how popular the events have become. Our support means that the ‘Discovery Days’ are entirely free to all visitors, making them fully accessible for everyone to attend, learn new skills, and find out more about our Island’s rich heritage. ‘Discover Crafty Christmas’ on Saturday, 13 December marks the perfect end to the series, offering people the chance to create fantastic cards, decorations and gifts for the upcoming festive period.”
