We’re looking for a skilled Financial Accountant to maintain accurate financial records, manage month end and year end processes, support audits, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and charity regulations.

Location: St Helier | Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday 8.30am – 5pm (37.5 hours per week)

Reports into: Financial Controller
The Financial Accountant is responsible for the integrity of Jersey Heritage’s financial records and statutory reporting. This role oversees financial controls, compliance, accounting processes, and year-end reporting, ensuring that financial information is accurate, timely, and compliant with relevant accounting standards and charity regulations. The post-holder supports strategic financial planning and works closely with auditors and internal stakeholders.
What you will deliver
Financial Accounting & Control
• Maintain accurate and compliant financial records in line with FRS 102 and charity SORP
• Manage the month-end / year-end close processes and prepare monthly departmental reports
• Reviewing journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capital additions, disposals, and depreciation
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure integrity across all financial systems
Statutory Reporting & Compliance
• Prepare annual statutory accounts and supporting schedules
• Work with external auditors during year-end audit and respond to audit queries
• Ensure compliance with charity legislation, governance requirements, and internal policies
• Oversee GST and tax filings; maintain compliance with relevant Jersey financial regulations
Cash, Treasury & Banking
• Manage cash flow forecasting and cash position reporting
• Ensure accurate recording of income streams including grants, admissions, trading, memberships
• Monitor restricted funds, endowments, and project-based funding
Financial Processes & Systems
• Maintain and improve financial procedures, controls, and accounting systems
• Support development of automated processes to improve accuracy and efficiency
• Ensure robust documentation of financial processes and internal controls
Other Responsibilities
• Assist with budgeting and long-term financial planning where required
• Support finance-related projects such as system improvements or reporting enhancements
• Provide financial training to non-finance staff where needed
• Perform other duties consistent with the role and organisational needs

Knowledge, Skills and experience needed
Essential
• Fully / part-qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, ICAEW, CIMA, or equivalent) or qualified by experience
• Solid experience in financial accounting and statutory reporting
• Strong understanding of accounting standards (FRS 102 desirable)
• Excellent technical accounting and reconciliation skills
• Experience managing audits and year-end processes
• Strong Excel and financial system capabilities
• High attention to detail and accuracy
Desirable
• Experience in the charity/not-for-profit, public sector, or cultural/heritage environment
• Understanding of restricted funds, grant accounting, or project accounting
• Knowledge of Jersey’s tax and regulatory regime
