Using Jersey Heritage Visitor Sites for Photography and Filming

These regulations apply to all filming and photography at all Jersey Heritage visitor sites, please read the regulations before completing the filming request application form.

Personal Photography and Filming

Photography and filming for private, non-commercial use is welcome at all Visitor Sites. This means any images or footage captured must not be used to generate income, promote a business, or be submitted to image libraries or commercial agencies.

Any photography or filming for commercial or promotional purposes must be approved in advance by completing the Film/Photography Application Form.

Weddings

Wedding photography and filming is welcome if the ceremony is taking place at the Visitor Site. If the wedding is not taking place at the site, then, during normal opening hours , the standard entry fees apply to all participants, including the photographer or filmmaker. In this case, there is no requirement to inform Jersey Heritage in advance.

News Media

All requests for local news access must be approved by the Jersey Heritage Communications Manager:

Accredited journalists and news photographers are granted access once approval has been received.

Visit Jersey and Government of Jersey

All filming and photography for Visit Jersey or the Government of Jersey must be arranged in advance by completing the Film/Photography Application Form.

There is no charge during normal opening hours. However, if access is required outside normal opening hours, a fee will apply in accordance with our pricing structure. Please refer to the Film/Photography Application Form for details.

Students

If the filming or photography is part of an academic project or course work, there is no charge to access Visitor Sites during normal opening hours. A fee is charged for access outside of normal hours. Access must be arranged in advance by completing the Film/Photography Application Form.

Professional Photography and Filming

Commercial filming and photography, including content produced by influencers, social media auditors, and citizen journalists for financial gain, is not permitted without a formal agreement signed by both parties.  A location fee will be charged to undertake all commercial filming and photography. Please contact us with your request at least four weeks in advance by completing the Film/Photography Application Form.

Content captured without permission may be reported to relevant social media platforms for removal.

Location fees contribute directly to supporting Jersey Heritage’s charitable work.

Use of Drones

Drone use is not permitted at any Visitor Site during normal opening hours. Out-of-hours drone filming requires permission from Jersey Heritage and a permit from the Director of Civil Aviation. More information can be found at the Office of the Director of Civil Aviation

Impact on Visitor Experience

Our Visitor Sites remain open to the public; therefore, photography and filming must have minimal to no impact on the visitor experience. Areas cannot be closed to accommodate shoots.

In exceptional circumstances, Jersey Heritage will consider applications that involve limited impact. Potential impact must be detailed in the Film/Photography Application Form, and additional charges will apply in relation to the level of disruption.

Collections Management

If there is any concern that filming or photography may pose a risk to collection items, Jersey Heritage reserves the right to assign a member of the Collections Team to oversee the shoot. An additional fee will be charged to cover this supervision.

Elizabeth Castle Transport

Transport to and from Elizabeth Castle is only available from the Castle Ferry, and only when the site is open to the public (March to October):

  • During British Summer Time (BST): 9:30am – 5:00pm
  • Outside BST: 9:30am – 4:00pm

In exceptional circumstances and for an additional charge of £250 each way access can be arranged on the Castle Ferry one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset, (subject to availability).

There is no private vehicle access to Elizabeth Castle.

Filming of Artwork at Mont Orgueil Castle

Jersey Heritage does not grant permission to film the artwork at Mont Orgueil Castle related to Queen Elizabeth II.

Notice Period

We require a minimum of four weeks’ notice for all commercial photography and filming that does not impact normal site operations.

If your proposed activity will significantly impact the site or require restricted public access, six months’ notice is required.

Fee information

Commercial filming and photography are charged, guidelines below:

During opening hours 10am until 4pm – £300 per hour

Before 10am or after 4pm – £600 per hour

There is no vehicle access to Elizabeth Castle outside of normal opening hours, unless there are exceptional circumstances. An additional charge of £250 will be made for this access for each Castle Ferry trip (subject to availability).

Visit Jersey or Government of Jersey, there is no charge during opening hours. Access outside of opening hours – £100 per hour.

If you require an expert on hand, they will be allocated to you after our team has assessed the nature of your request. In addition, Jersey Heritage may feel an expert is required to oversee the filming at some locations. This will involve additional charge of £250.

Media/News sources are not charged but on-site activity must be pre-agreed with the Communications Manager – suzi.austin@jerseyheritage.org

Students who are requesting use of our site for educational purposes on a small scale for coursework are not charged additional filming/ photography fees during opening hours. However, standard admission fees will be charged.

Depending on the scale of the request and resources you require, additional fees may occur.
