Our object and art stores hold approximately 27,000 social history objects; 150,000 items of archaeology and 11,000 works of art. Only up to 10% of these items can be on display at any one time. We run a programme of Open Store visits, throughout the year to welcome visitors to the store to give personal insights into this fascinating world of museums behind the scenes.
