A chance to get behind the scenes and take a closer look at objects and artwork in our collection

Your chance to see some of the weird, wonderful, and sometimes commonplace, objects that make up the social history, art, textiles, archaeology and archive collections cared for by Jersey Heritage.

Take a look at parts of the collections not currently on display at our visitor sites. Our Collections team will be available to talk to you about different objects, chosen from the hundreds of thousands of items they look after.

Tours of our Museum Collection Store will also be running at 10am alongside our September, October and December events. Get in touch with us at RegistrarTeam@jerseyheritage.org to book your space.

New Accessions

We received some fascinating new objects in 2024, adding hundreds of new items to our existing collections. Come and discover some of this new material. Our Archive Conservation Lab will also be open allowing you to see what our conservators have been working on.

Claude Cahun

Our Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore collection is now closed for preservation and cannot ordinarily be viewed. For this event, we will be allowing exclusive access to the collection and providing you with a unique opportunity to see some of the original material.

Occupation

As part of our wider programme of events for Liberation 80, this event will allow you to see some of our varied Occupation collections. We are extending the opening time for this event only and will be open all day.

Textiles

With over 5,000 items in our textiles collection, we will be showing a range of pieces, from wedding dresses to military uniforms. You will also have the chance to look behind-the-scenes in our textiles store.

Archaeology

As part of the CBA Festival of Archaeology, come and see some of the archaeological treasures in the collection, as well as some recent finds. Our Museum Conservation Lab will also be open to allow you to see some recent conservation projects.

Tourism

Tourism has been a significant part of Jersey’s economy since its boom in the 1950s and 1960s. We have huge amounts of material connected to the Island’s hotels, restaurants and attractions over the years. Come and reminisce about times gone by.

Wildlife & Animals

We will be showing a selection of animals, birds and other specimens from our natural history collection, as well as material from the Gerald Durrell archive and artworks featuring animals.

Photography

This event is all about photography and how technology has changed over time. We have a range of cameras in the collection dating back to the 19th century and our conservators will be available to show you how some of these worked.

Toys & Games

We have a large number of toys in the collections, dating from the Victorian era to the present day. Come and see a selection from across the decades.
