Discover the Island's best stories with some creative family fun our Discovery Day events bring the best of storytelling, arts and crafts, trails and dressing up. Discovery days are perfect fun for families with children under 10 years old.

All children under 6 go free and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
Normal entry fee applies. Free for Jersey Heritage Members.

Discover Sailors

Saturday, 25 March / 10am to 4pm / Maritime Museum

Take a voyage around the Maritime Museum charting your discoveries in your own ship’s log as you go. Find out about famous Jersey sailors, the lands they travelled to and the ships they sailed. Dress up as a sailor and learn about the dangers of life at sea. Listen to our storyteller’s local maritime legends, and enjoy creating some maritime-themed crafts.

Discover Dragons

Sunday, 23 April / 10am to 4pm / Mont Orgueil Castle

Step back into medieval times and discover dragons and other mythical creatures at Mont Orgueil. Find out whether these creatures really existed and what they might have looked like. St George, one of the most famous dragon slayers, celebrates his feast day on 23 April and Mont Orgueil has a chapel dedicated to him. Design your own fantasy creature and explore the Castle on a dragon hunt!

Celebrate World Bee Day and the beauty of spring at Hamptonne. Find out why bees are so amazing and important. Be inspired to make your own butterflies and bees. See if you can discover the hidden butterflies around Hamptonne and learn about what plants butterflies and bees love.

Discover Archaeology

Sunday, 25 June / 10am to 4pm / La Hougue Bie

Archaeology is a hunt for historical finds. Come and discover what fascinating finds have been unearthed in Jersey over the years. Find out about the fantastic Celtic Hoards of coins and jewellery discovered in Jersey. Have a go at a mini-dig to see if you can uncover any finds yourself and then follow the discovery trail around La Hougue Bie and the new ‘Searching for Jersey Celts’ exhibition.

Discover Beaches

Saturday, 2 September / 12pm to 5pm / La Hocq Beach

Come to Le Hocq for our first Discovery Day in partnership with Aspiring Jersey Island Geopark! Find out how Jersey’s landscape changes with the ebb and flow of the tide. Join in with a community beach clean, create sand art and discover the fascinating history of Jersey’s geology through pebble activities led by our Geopark Guide. A treasure trove of sea creatures can be found under the seaweed and in the rock pools at low tide. Join in with a rock pool ramble and learn how to identify sea life, then follow the discovery trail at Le Hocq Tower to find out more about this historic land mark. Bring a sunhat, sun lotion and plenty of water! Picnics welcome, but please no BBQ’s.
