The purpose of this role is to lead, manage and develop the Site Gardien team to deliver a consistently high quality, welcoming visitor experience across all sites and to oversee Site Gardien duties in site operations, maintenance, and compliance to ensure safe, cared for and well presented heritage environments.

What you will deliver
Team Leadership
You will recruit, lead and manage the Site Gardiens, numbering approx.12 individuals (plus occasional zero-hour ad hoc staff). You will monitor and evaluate the performance of the Site Gardiens, ensuring they have the appropriate skills and training to perform their roles, both individually and as a team. You will be accountable for each team member’s personal development, objective setting and ongoing performance reviews.
Working closely with the Curation and Experience Director, you will develop your own personal leadership and management skills to support the Site Gardien team.
You will proactively lead, manage and develop the Site Gardien team to enhance individual site staff skills and performance, and support them with day-to-day operational requirements.
You will be fully trained as a Site Gardien for all JH sites, and, should circumstances require, be available to cover an absent Site Gardien.
Site maintenance
You will identify, plan and co-ordinate Site Gardien maintenance tasks, working closely with the JH maintenance team as required. You will ensure these tasks are properly communicated and kept on track.
Where your skills and qualifications allow, you will take on maintenance and display maintenance tasks.
You will be the lead user of the MRI site maintenance system, continually reviewing the progress of site tasks on this system, ensuring Site Gardiens add appropriate tasks onto the system, and are trained to make best use of the system.
You will manage Site Gardien tasks and procedures, ensuring they are recorded and progressed as necessary.
You will assist Site Gardiens in understanding the infrastructure and equipment of the JH sites.
Teamwork
An excellent team player, you will help to create a great place for you and your colleagues to work. You will be supportive and helpful to colleagues across the organisation and volunteers, fostering a culture of good teamwork.
You will work closely with the Visitor Services Manager to continually improve the visitor experience and to manage the JH sites on a daily basis and to manage site staff training.
You will work closely with the JH maintenance team, ensuring that Site Gardien tasks are properly requested, briefed, equipped, co-ordinated and approved.
You will assist the Curation and Experience team with the installation of new displays and exhibitions at JH sites, preparation for events and making JH sites accessible.
You will work with teams across JH to understand the requirements of working in historic sites, grounds and collections.
You will work closely with the Volunteer and Access Co-ordinator to identify opportunities for Volunteers and Corporate Volunteers, and help manage their presence on site.
Working with partners
Where there are external franchisees on site, you will facilitate effective communication between site staff, Commercial Operations Team and personnel employed by our trading partners to deliver partner relationships so that they contribute to the optimum visitor experience.
Financial performance:
You will support the site staff to maximise income generation. You will support wider Jersey Heritage fundraising initiatives as promoted from time to time. You will strive to be efficient and ensure cost effectiveness in all the work that you do.
Working Safely and Securely
You will take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others, including the public, staff, volunteers and contractors, by complying with all health and safety legislation and other related procedures to manage and minimise risk in both daily operations and when you use Jersey Heritage vehicles. You will actively participate in evacuation training and procedures as necessary.
Managing Risk:
You will identify and manage risks specific to your area of the business complying with all internal processes and procedures. You will ensure that you and your team comply with procedures to manage and minimise risk to the public, staff, volunteers and contractors.
