Introduction

Mont Orgueil Castle is built on a rocky promontory overlooking the harbour at Gorey, it has dominated the East coast of Jersey playing a key role in the islands history for over 600 years. The Castle is essentially split into four main areas: the outer ward, the lower ward, the middle ward and sitting on the highest part of the promontory, the keep. The Castle is a network of staircases, towers and secret rooms and throughout you can discover hidden artwork commissioned to tell the story of the castle. There is a short introductory film on show in the model room which is located inside the 2nd gate in the lower ward and guided tours led by volunteers run on a regular basis throughout the day. There is a small cafe on site offering light refreshments with an outside seating area with lovely views over Grouville bay and to the French coast. The toilets are situated near the cafe in the lower ward. You should allow at least two hours to visit the Castle.
