Conservation - Collections - Jersey Heritage

Conservation is the physical care of our collections, to ensure their long-term survival, for now and for future generations.

This involves both preventive conservation, through proper storage, display and handling of the collections and interventive conservation, through the repair or treatment of individual items to ensure their long-term survival. In order to achieve this Jersey Heritage employs two professionally qualified conservators who share a fully equipped laboratory. Teams of volunteers work alongside the conservators to assist with the care of our collections.

Good preventive conservation aims to prevent deterioration of the materials by the use of environmentally controlled storerooms, appropriate lighting, mounts and display areas, high quality protective packaging and good training for all staff and volunteers that handle collections.
