Telling ghost stories during winter is a hallowed tradition, a folk custom that stretches back centuries to a time when families would while away the dark nights with tales of spooks and monsters.

This December, members of the Jersey Youth Performing Arts (JYPA) will bring to life some of Jersey’s most enduring ghost stories, told by candlelight in the atmospheric Medieval Hall of Mont Orgueil Castle.

Using local writer Erren Michael’s books, Jersey Ghost Stories and Jersey Legends, as source material, the storytellers will share four haunting tales, some of which will be told in Jèrriais, the traditional language of Jersey. The stories will be accompanied by images projected onto the walls of the Medieval Hall, filmed by local company Little River Pictures.

JYPA is a registered charity which provides access to the performing arts to young people in Jersey, irrespective of their economic background. It produces shows and runs workshops for youngsters aged 9 -18 years old and participation is completely free of charge. JYPA also funds bursaries for talented members to attend local performing arts schools.
