Jersey Heritage and Culture Maps takes the reader on a tour of Jersey, its history and its stories – an in-depth Guide Book that includes 15 Walks on the theme of Jersey’s heritage including the Occupation; Neolithic sites; farming and mills; buildings and landmarks of interest; towers and forts; monuments and sculptures.

An A5 spiral bound book packed with useful information, Jersey Heritage & Culture Maps includes a large illustrated map of Jersey. The user-friendly resource will be invaluable for people who live in Jersey and tourists who want to explore this beautiful Island and discover more about its landmarks, rich history and unique culture.

Based on an idea by Julia Coutanche, the Jersey Heritage and Culture Maps book has been created entirely by dedicated Jersey Heritage volunteers: Michael Ferns has compiled, illustrated and designed the book; Jill Stevens researched the history and background of places that are featured; Guide Alan Ley contributed ideas for the walks; Guide Anne Forsyth road-tested the walks and proof read the text.

Jersey Heritage’s Volunteer Coordinator Julia Coutanche explains, “Michael is without doubt one of our most hard-working and focused volunteers. The Jersey Heritage and Culture Maps project is testament to his self-discipline, tenacity and talent and the huge amount of time and effort he has given as a Jersey Heritage volunteer; a fabulous achievement. Congratulations to Michael, I hope he will receive some well-deserved success and recognition”.

Part-funded by Jersey Heritage, the Jersey Heritage and Culture Maps book has been sponsored by the Association of Jersey Charities.

Michael graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2010. His work focuses mainly on landscapes, location and history, principally using ink and paints but also computer software such as Photoshop, Illustrator and In-design.
