Elizabeth Castle will throw open its gates to welcome Islanders to a Family Fun Day this April, which will be free to everyone thanks to sponsorship from Lloyds Bank.

The Fun Day is the first of two free events aimed at encouraging Islanders to discover or re-discover this iconic landmark as part of the Love Your Castle campaign launched by Jersey Heritage. One of the highlights will be a series of specially written guided tours that will take visitors inside the unique historic Barracks Hospital, an area of the castle usually closed to the public, and a building Jersey Heritage is keen to renovate and re-open permanently in the future.

Jersey Heritage Chief Executive Jonathan Carter said, ‘We want everyone to come and enjoy the castle and through the support of Lloyds Bank we have been able to waive the entry fee for this event. It’s a great opportunity for people to reconnect with Elizabeth Castle, which has stood guard to our main maritime gateway for over 400 years.’

Jason Lewis, Business Development Manager at Lloyds Bank said, ‘Lloyds Community Bank Jersey is delighted to support the Jersey Heritage Love you Castle campaignElizabeth Castle is a brilliant venue where all ages can learn, play and reminisce in a fun environment. As one of the leading Banks in the local community, Lloyds Community Bank is committed to helping to raise the profile of the importance of enjoying and preserving our Island’s heritage’

There will be entertainment throughout the day including Sitas Circus, beach craft on the Castle shore, abseiling and archery; a Creative Zone will feature community art activities where visitors can help build a castle picture in the Shooting Range, be part of Love your Castle in the brick wall build and frame themselves in the Tudor Gallery.

Visitors will also be able to take part in a mindfulness session in the ‘Love to Chill Tower’.  Local performers have donated their time to be part of the Love Your Castle experience and there will be live music and dance sessions in the Parade Ground and on the Castle Green throughout the day.

The Love Your Castle Family Fun Day will be held on Sunday 9 April from 10.30am to 3pm and any funds raised will support the Elizabeth Castle renovation project.
