We’re looking for Adhoc Site Gardiens to join our team.
The Adhoc Site Gardien is responsible for the daily operation, safety and presentation of a Jersey Heritage site. This is an independent, hands‑on role where you take ownership of your site, ensuring it is opened and closed securely each day and remains safe, clean and welcoming for all visitors. You will greet visitors from the local community, Jersey Heritage members and international guests, offering a warm, informative welcome and assisting with orientation, exhibitions, events and facilities. You will also support the ticket desk when required, using EPOS systems confidently and helping to promote memberships, guidebooks, retail items and donation opportunities.
The role is varied and practical. Depending on your site, you may undertake tasks such as animal care, gardening, event setup or general maintenance. You will monitor the condition of the site throughout the day, reporting issues that require specialist attention and ensuring that presentation standards remain consistently high. As a key holder, you will complete daily checks, operate fire and security systems and follow all procedures designed to protect visitors, staff, volunteers and contractors.
You will work closely with a supportive team of staff and volunteers, helping to guide, motivate and collaborate with colleagues across curatorial, collections, property and visitor services teams. You will contribute to team meetings, support volunteer involvement and help maintain a positive, inclusive working environment. As a representative of Jersey Heritage, you will share the story of your site and the wider work of the organisation, helping visitors understand the importance of preserving Jersey’s history.
