Lloyds Banking Group – Day to Make a Difference – Hamptonne Heroes – 16th May 2014
Annually, Lloyds Banking Group gives colleagues the opportunity to use one working day of the year for their ‘Day to Make a Difference’. Managed by Business in the Community, Give & Gain Day is the UK’s only national day of employee volunteering, which Lloyds Banking Group are proud sponsors of. It provides the perfect opportunity for each of us to make a real difference on the issues that matter to schools, local charities and community groups across the UK. In 2013, LBG supported Give & Gain Day with over 4500 volunteers on just one single day!
At Islands Commercial, Jersey, we engaged with Jersey Heritage to utilise our Day to Make a Difference assisting in the work to prepare Hamptonne Country Life Museum for its 2014 opening on 1st June.
With 25 colleagues from across various business units within Jersey & Guernsey Commercial, Islands Secretariat and Black Horse Finance taking part in the day at Hamptonne, we were involved in various tasks including;-
- Gardening and re-logging of the visitors car park
- Cleaning of the collection pieces in the entrance and barn and we were also able to clean all the stable tack which had not been cleaned in years
- Removing the old signs from around Hamptonne and replacing them with the new signs
- Clearing of the stream – removing all of the overgrown hedgerow from the stream at the bottom of the meadow and trimming back the grass creating a stream again
Throughout the day there was positive feedback from both Jersey Heritage and Lloyds Bank colleagues. The Jersey Heritage staff even commented on more than one occasion that we should slow down before we run out of work. We continued to work hard in the hot sun and exceeded the expectations of Jersey Heritage and ourselves with the work we completed.
The day was an absolute success and the sunshine did not hurt either. We look forward to working with Jersey Heritage again in the future with more Corporate Responsibility Days.
