Entry into Jersey Museum & Art Gallery will be just £1 over the last weekend of the year to mark the final few days of the Handmade Jersey – A Work in Progress exhibition.
The reduced entry fee will be available between Saturday 28 December and Monday, 30 December inclusive, and will include entry to all exhibitions at Jersey Museum, including the Victorian House. As always, entry is free for Jersey Heritage Members and children under six.
Louise Downie, Jersey Heritage’s Director of Curation and Experience, said: “We did something similar last year to mark the end of the ‘80s exhibition and were delighted by the response from Islanders and visitors. One of our main aims at Jersey Heritage is to share our stories with as many people as possible. We hope the reduced entry price will encourage plenty of people to come and enjoy Handmade Jersey before it closes.”
Handmade Jersey shines a light on the talents of Jersey’s amateur artists and craftspeople, and displays both historical and contemporary art and craft, ranging from a Neolithic pot and 18th century samplers, to a huge Cosplay costume made out of recycled materials. Some of the exhibits are from Jersey Heritage collections and have never been on display, and others have been lent by Islanders.
The Make Space within the exhibition, which is kindly sponsored by the Association of Jersey Charities and the Channel Islands Lottery, provides an opportunity for people to create something themselves. It has been a hive of activity since the exhibition opened in April with Museum visitors trying their hand at everything from pottery and printing, to sewing, paper-cutting and, most recently, festive crafts.
Handmade Jersey will close after Monday, 30 December to make way for a new exhibition about immigration called People Make Jersey, which is due to open in March 2020. The Make Space will reopen as an activity space as part of People Make Jersey.
