Overlooking the picturesque harbour at Gorey and the Royal Bay of Grouville, Mont Orgueil Castle is Jersey’s most iconic building.  The castle dates to the 13th century and was built to defend Jersey from the French when King John lost control of Normandy to King Philip of France.  

Life-size wooden soldiers guard the castle from attack and a grisly wooden carving shows the fate that could await those fighting to save the castle from invasion.  Make a wish at the Tudor well, climb to the top of the castle and imagine firing the mighty cannons or simply look out to the French coast only 14 miles away.  With more than 50 exhibits, a knights and princesses dressing-up box for the children and plenty going on with our wonderful Living History team, a visit to Mont Orgueil Castle will bring history to life.

Winter opening (November to April) Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday from 10am to dusk.

Buses, cycle routes and parking

Disc and paycard parking at Gorey Harbour and on Gorey Coast Road.  Free public car park at Long Beach. Bus r oute 1 and route 1b stop at Gorey Pier and Island Explorer green route.  Jersey cycle routes 1 and 3.

Access arrangements

Unfortunately the site is not suitable for people with mobility impairment
