YOUR HERITAGE NEEDS YOU!
Here at the Jersey Heritage Trust we really value the contributions that our volunteers make to the work of the organisation. With the help of our volunteers we have been able to give the public greater access to information and to parts of the collections which have been unseen for many years.
Are you the kind of person who is able to help us in our work. We are looking for retired people, students, mums, dads - in fact all sorts of people with all sorts of talents. If you think that you could spare us an hour or two once a week then we would love to hear from you. There is a host of volunteering opportunities at the Trust through which you can show off your existing skills or even learn some new ones.
If you are interested in any of the volunteering opportunities listed below then please contact Cassie Horton, Volunteer/Living History manager on 633339 or e-mail her at education@jerseyheritagetrust.org
Working with the public
People love talking with people and one of the most rewarding experiences we offer to our visitors is the guided tour programme. If you are interested in telling the stories that surround our sites and in bringing the past to life then this could be the chance for you to develop your skills in this area. We also stage a number of events around our sites throughout the year so why not join the team that makes things happen?
The Jersey Heritage Trust has a Business Associates scheme and Heritage Supporters scheme. We also apply to grant-giving Trusts to fund specific projects. The Head of Business Development is looking for volunteers to help manage the membership and fundraising schemes.
Research opportunities
The Trust have a number of projects on which you can hone up those research skills; The Curator of Art's Jersey Artists project needs volunteers to work through the diaries, letters, articles and websites relating to Island artists such as Cahun, Millais, Bosdet. Are you good at languages? Because we need help in translating various documents from French and German associated with these artists. We also need to find out more about the miniature portrait painters, furniture makers and suppliers, and the port painters whose work is represented in our collection. The Head of Education Services' Inshore Fishing project needs volunteers to transcribe the Oyster and the Fishing Boat registers and to work through the various papers relating to these important industries.
Conservation opportunities
Many of our objects in the collection require basic conservation so why not join our conservator and his team of volunteers in looking after this part of our heritage.
Registration and curation opportunities
Our Registrar receives fascinating and fantastic objects every day - why not give her a hand in cataloguing and preparing the objects, especially the textile collection, for long term storage and display.
